The head of the Przewalski's horse is large, and the body is short and muscular. Przewalski's horses stand about 13 hands high (a little more than four feet) and have a head and body length of less than seven feet, with a tail close to three feet long.
These horses once lived in western Mongolia and northern China. Before their population dwindled, these horses lived on steppe vegetation, shrubland, and plains. Przewalski's horses eat grasses and other vegetation.
After an 11- to 12-month pregnancy, a female gives birth to a single offspring. The young can stand as soon as an hour after being born.
